Elion Logistics Park 55

Environmental Graphics | Wayfinding

Client: Elion Partners

Completion Date: 2018

Located 40 miles southwest of Chicago in Wilmington Illinois, Elion Logistics Park 55 is a new 2,500 acre rail-served industrial park with over 30 million square feet available for immediate and future distribution facilities. When completed, the $2 billion park will be the largest rail-served industrial mixed-use logistics park in the Midwest, and one of the largest in the country. Elion Partners, the project’s owners, hired Yazi to plan and design a wayfinding program for the massive campus.

The Project:

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE

When we started our scope of work for the Park, the majority of the site was undeveloped land. The Owner had created a master plan for the eventual buildout of the site, and we worked closely with them to strategize the present—and future—identity and wayfinding needs for the project. Once fully built out, the massive site would be almost impossible to navigate without a strong identity and directional system built into the various approaches, entry points, and internal roadways. We subdivided the site into three color coded districts, which allowed us to create a heirarchy in the identity and directional sign system. Each district is directly accessible via a perimeter access point, as well as through the internal roadways. With this method we are able to direct traffic to “zones”, and limit the number of individual tenant names on directional signs.

THE ART OF INFORMATION

We understood the need to create a clear and impactful visual guidance system for the Park, given the eventual high volume of daily traffic. The three main gateway entries are identified by large freestanding monument signs, each with a distinct color scheme, and labeled with an A, B, or C designation. The same monumental character and color scheme are incorporated into the internal directional signs, and tenant identity signs. By subdividing the Park into districts; labeling each as A, B, or C; and associating each district with a strong color accent—we were able to create a navigational system that does not overwhelm visitors with information, while still guiding them to their destination.
