Client: University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida
Completion Date: Present
The University of Miami comprises 11 schools and colleges serving both graduate and undergraduate students in over 180 different majors. Like most universities of its stature, it produces a large volume and variety of graphic communications each year. Yazi has worked with many different departments and colleges within the University to create graphics that communicates their message to the student population and the community at large. Our work includes print design and branding, web design, and principal photography.
DESIGNING FOR THE "U"
Just a few of our projects for the University includes the design of comprehensive tour guides for each of the University’s three campuses; new campus maps for the Coral Gables Campus and the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science Campus; a pocket sized brochure, guidebook, and map for the Coral Gables campus public sculpture program; a campus Design Standards Manual that documents the University’s guidelines for architectural and spatial design on campus; the Plan of Operations Financial Annual Report that is presented each year to the Board of Trustees; and a new website that promotes the University’s Green and LEED certified buildings and projects on campus. For most of these projects we also shot and provided all of the photos and images used in the final layouts.
CENTER FOR THE HUMANITIES
In 2009 the College of Arts and Sciences established the University’s Center for the Humanities, the first center of it’s kind in South Florida. The Center’s new director asked yazi to develop a brand, graphic strategy and design direction for their initial collateral materials and inaugural year activities including events, seminars, programs and a calendar of events. They needed a flexible collection of materials that could be distributed individually, or as part of a cohesive package.
CENTER FOR LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES
Students of the Latin American Studies program learn to acquire, advance and disseminate knowledge of the history, literature, culture, politics, economics, and natural and social sciences of the Latin Americas and the Caribbean. The director of the Center approached yazi to design a report that would highlight the Center’s accomplishments over their first three years, and promote the Center’s agenda to future students, educators and to an international community. The graphics needed to have a strong visual association with the University brand, while also portraying a unique modern style and identity that represents and promotes the Center. Our new designs were a big departure from their existing collateral, and established a tone and style that could carry through in future collateral.
